U.S. Silk Imports from China in August 1.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, imports of silk goods from China were $0.148 billion billion in August, up 15.71 percent from a year earlier and down 4.39 percent from a year earlier, accounting for 30.05 percent of global imports, and the share continued to decline, down about 10 percentage points from the beginning of the year.

Specific as follows:

Silk: Imports from China were US $1.301 million, up 197.40 per cent year-on-year and 141.85 per cent month-on-month, with a market share of 66.64 per cent, a sharp increase over the previous month; imports were 31.69 tons, up 99.33 per cent year-on-year and 57.20 per cent month-on-month, with a market share of 79.41 per cent.

Silk and satin: Imports from China were US $4.1658 million, down 31.13 per cent year-on-year and 6.79 per cent month-on-month, with a market share of 19.64 per cent. Although the proportion did not change much, the list of import sources fell to third place, with Taiwan rising to second place.

Manufactured goods: Imports from China were US $0.142 billion billion, up 17.39 per cent year-on-year, down 4.85 per cent month-on-month, and market share was 30.37 per cent, down from next month.

From January to August 2022, the United States imported $1.284 billion billion of silk goods from China, an increase of 45.16 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 32.20 percent of global imports, ranking first among the sources of imports of silk goods in the United States. Among them:

Silk: Imports from China amounted to US $4.3141 million, up 71.92 per cent year-on-year, with a market share of 42.82 per cent, ranking first in silk imports, and 114.30 tons, up 0.91 per cent year-on-year, with a market share of 45.63 per cent.

Satin: Imports from China were US $37.8414 million, down 5.11 per cent year-on-year, with a market share of 21.77 per cent, ranking second in the source of satin imports.

Manufactured goods: Imports from China were US $1.242 billion, up 47.46 per cent year-on-year, with a market share of 32.64 per cent, ranking first among sources of imports.

Since 2018, the United States has imposed a 10% import tariff on 25 8-digit customs-coded cocoon silk and silk goods in China. It has 1 cocoon, 7 silk (including 8 10-bit codes) and 17 satins (including 37 10-bit codes).

1. US imports of Chinese silk goods subject to tariffs in August

In August, U.S. imports of silk goods from China were subject to a 10% tariff of $2.3272 million, up 77.67 percent year-on-year and 68.28 percent month-on-month. The market share was 31.88 per cent, up sharply from the previous month. Specific as follows:

Silkworm cocoons: zero imports from China.

Silk: Imports from China were US $1.301 million, up 197.40 per cent year-on-year and 141.85 per cent month-on-month, with a market share of 66.64 per cent, a sharp increase over the previous month; imports were 31.69 tons, up 99.33 per cent year-on-year and 57.20 per cent month-on-month, with a market share of 79.41 per cent.

Satin: Imports from China were 1.0262 million US dollars, up 17.63 per cent year-on-year, 21.44 per cent month-on-month and 19.19 per cent market share. The volume was 117200 square meters, up 25.06 percent year-on-year.

From January to August, the United States imported Chinese silk goods subject to a 10% tariff of 11.3134 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 66.41 percent year-on-year, and a market share of 20.64 percent, ranking second in the source of imports. Among them:
